Vacations are certainly wonderful, yet it takes a while to get back into the full swing of work.
m. mouse, the official How-to-Quilt.com diabetic Siamese cat, didn’t seem to have much trouble; once he jumped out of the car, he dashed into the house, said “hi” to his buddy, Jackson, ate some tasty Mixed Grill, and then jumped onto the sunny spa to stretch out for a long nap.

Oh, that it were so easy for me!
But, there are quilts to be made and information to be shared.
Recently several quilters have written in saying they would like more information about hand piecing and hand quilting – very traditional quilters, they are.
In response, I will be posting an article each week for the next few months showing these wonderful, traditional techniques that take me back to my early quilting days. As these are posted, I will add links to previous articles, so you can get the full picture of the process.
When I began quilting, I was told that there are two types of quilts that you “really should” make. I’m certainly not for rules in quilting, but these ideas had some appeal to me since they made a connection between modern day quilting and the quilting of our foremothers.
Those two types of quilts were:
- A quilt that is completely hand sewn – hand pieced, hand quilted
- A whole cloth quilt – one piece of fabric, typically solid color, that is hand quilted
I have completed the handmade quilt – it was a broken star quilt, which you will see.
The whole cloth quilt has yet to be started. Seems a bit overwhelming when I am not even able to finish hand quilting one I started with quilting daughter Stephanie seven years ago.
Maybe this series of articles will get me inspired!
The next project is a t-shirt quilt, and you’ll read about it in this week’s news:
